Poland, Spain and Italy were in 2015 the main producers in Europe of fruit and vegetables, Eurostat reports. Apples and tomatoes were the most produced fruit in EU in terms of quantity.
According to Eurostat, in the European Union, over 2.3m hectares were devoted to the production of fruit and berries and a further 2.1 million hectares to the production of vegetables. Spain was the leading EU Member State in terms of production area of fruit in 2015, while Italy for vegetables. Apples were the most produced fruit in the EU in terms of quantity and Poland harvested 1 in every 4 apples produced in the EU. Poland was also the main EU producers of cherries, and the second, after Spain of strawberries.
Poland is one of the main producers of vegetables: as for carrots and cucumbers the country holds second place in EU. (EUROSTAT)
